THEMATIC AREAS

Caritas Uganda’s charity and community development work are implemented under the following eight thematic orientations

Food and Nutrition Security


coordinating and strengthening capacity of Caritas in the country to effectively undertake initiatives that promote access, availability, utilization, safety, and stability of food for all persons.

Climate Change and Natural Resource Management

Caritas as an effective agent in responding to climate change, environmental degradation and irresponsible exploitation of natural resources through adaptation and mitigation programmes and policy advocacy.

Economic Empowerment


Undertaking and promoting initiatives that empower vulnerable households and individuals to effectively harness available opportunities to create wealth and improve their living conditions; includes provision of life skills and microfinance services.

Community and Public Health Initiatives

Undertaking and promoting preventive interventions such as access to clean water, sanitation, and home and personal hygiene, immunization, and healthy diet and life styles.

Good governance and accountability

Focusing on policy advocacy and engagements targeting duty bearers at local, national and international levels, monitoring delivery of government development programmes and social services to ensure they are responsive to the needs of the poor, effective, efficient, inclusive, equitable; and promoting rule of law, transparency and accountability

Humanitarian, Special Needs & Emergency Relief

Supporting refugees, internally displaced persons, vulnerable children and adults, the elderly, the sick, migrants, and persons with disabilities.

Gender & Equal Opportunities

Promoting safe homes and communities for both men and women, and empowering marginalized groups, such as women and youth, through affirmative action and promotion of equal economic, leadership and employment opportunities.

Institutional Strengthening and Sustainability

Undertaking continuous institutional capacity building through appropriate internal policy reforms, tooling, strategic planning, resource mobilization, human resource development, and strategic partnerships.
