Katanita group members consisting of migrants from South Sudan are prime beneficialies under Caritas Denmark Humantarian Programme. These were brought together in groups by Caritas Uganda in order to promote good farming practices and encourage self-reliance among the group members.

Caritas Arua in partnership with Caritas Uganda supported Katanita Farmer groups from village 1, Zone 2, and Bidibidi settlement in Yumbe district with improved cassava cutting of NARCOS 1 and NASSE19. These types are resistant to cassava brown streak. The group managed to plant 2 acres of cassava NASSE19 in 2020 and it yielded over 14,000 kg per acres totaling to 28,000 kg. This has improved the food security of the members and improved household income through selling cassava for food, cassava cuttings and dried cassava flour to some of the farmers in their community.

There is greater improvement in the livelihoods of smallholder farmers of the refugees supported by Caritas Denmark Humantarian programme. We are so grateful to our donors for all the support we receive through Caritas Uganda.
