About Us

Caritas Uganda is the charity and integral human development arm of the Catholic Church in Uganda, operating under the Registered Trustees of the Uganda Episcopal Conference. Its mandate is to promote charity, foster holistic development, and strengthen institutions that serve the poor.

THEMATIC AREAS

Caritas Uganda’s charity and community development work are implemented under the following eight thematic orientations

Food and Nutrition Security

Coordinating and strengthening capacity of Caritas in the country to effectively undertake initiatives that promote access, availability, utilization, safety, and stability of food for all persons.

Climate Change & Natural Resource Management

Responding to climate change and environmental degradation through adaptation, mitigation programmes, and advocacy for responsible resource management.

Economic Empowerment

Promoting initiatives that empower vulnerable households and individuals to create wealth and improve livelihoods through life skills and microfinance services.

Community & Public Health Initiatives

Promoting preventive health interventions including clean water access, sanitation, hygiene, immunization, and healthy lifestyle practices.

Good Governance & Accountability

Advocating for transparency, rule of law, and responsive delivery of government services that are inclusive, equitable, and effective for all.

Humanitarian, Special Needs & Emergency Relief

Supporting refugees, internally displaced persons, vulnerable children and adults, the elderly, the sick, migrants, and persons with disabilities.

Gender & Equal Opportunities

Promoting equality, safety, and empowerment for marginalized groups through gender inclusion and economic participation initiatives.

Institutional Strengthening & Sustainability

Building institutional capacity through policy reforms, resource mobilization, human resource development, and strategic partnerships.
